Under the leadership of Don and Betty York, and with the help of many people from our church and several other churches, Pleasant Union UMC is in the process of providing someone in our community with a better, safer home. The work of the Holy Spirit has been visible at every turn of this project, and we thank God that He inspired the Yorks who have led us to spread the love of Christ in our community in this special way.
During the month of August our mission focus is the "Room at the Inn" project to support the Mary Nussbaum Maternity Center in Greensboro as the provide care and support to women in the area who find themselves homeless and pregnant. Items needed for our annual "Baby Shower" include:
Gifts may be dropped off at the church office or added to the table at the back of the sanctuary, either in gift bags or simply left on the table. All gifts will be delivered to the maternity center at the end of August. Thank you for helping to ensure woman who are pregnant and in need are not "turned away from the inn."
Please Note: Rocky Railway Vacation Bible School has been postponed to July, 2021 due to COVID-19.
During the month of July, the church holds a one-week Vacation Bible School for the children of the community. Every evening, children ages 3 through 9th grade learn a Bible story, participate in arts and crafts, and play games, all designed to help them understand the incredible love of God revealed in Jesus Christ. Adults from the church volunteer there time to build sets, teach lessons, serve snacks, lead games, and guide the kids through their activities as we together explore the Good News of the Gospel. The kids even raise money for an overseas mission project. This year, VBS will be held the week of July 19th through the 24th from from 6 pm to 8:30 pm. The theme is "Rocky Railway," and the mission project will support families in Ecuador through Project Kid-to-Kid. Please contact the church office to volunteer or sign up your kids!
Every Thursday evening, Pleasant Union UMC hosts "Our Table", a free community meal that is open to everyone. For six years, the members have been serving up delicious food and warm fellowship to whomever God brings to the church, knowing that both reflect the love of God made known to us in Jesus Christ. This ministry has grown through the years, and we now serve more than 250 meals every week to members of our community. We believe that the best testimony we can give to the difference God makes in our lives is through our actions, and we pray that those who gather at the church on Thursday night will experience the love of God and of this church family as we eat together.
Note: Due to COVID-19, all meals are "take-out" only. We will reopen for dining and fellowship just as soon as it is safe to do so!
